Soundproof glass
Better enviroment.
Noise levels in our modern society are ever increasing and therefore we must recognize that it is often necessary to protect ourselves from such interference. With increasing environmental awareness the use of sound proof glass is becoming more common. A standard energy saving window reduces noise levels but this is not always enough!
Building.
The simplest form of a sound reducing glass unit comprises of 2 layers of glass e.g. 6mm glass – 12mm spacer(profile) – 4mm glass. This has a sound reduction of 35.4dB compared to 31.5dB of a standard 2 layer glass unit. Sound proof Windows are asymmetrical in construction in terms of glass thickness and or profile spaces (inc. triple glazed). The space between the glasses causes the sound waves to be broken thus reducing noise. The amount of space between the layers of glass can be increased but this does not always give a substantial increase in noise reduction.
Noise Reduction.
Sound levels are measured in decibels with 1dB being the lowest sound level we can register. A sound reduction of 3dB half’s the air pressure thus reducing wear and tear on our ears ! There must be a reduction of between 8-10 dB before we can notice a significant change in noise level approx 50%. Sound proof windows can be built using different components depending on the sound reduction level that is wished to be achieved.
Many Options.
Sound proof Windows can be supplied as low energy Windows but please note that they should be injected with air as argon reduces sound reduction.
Please note the following concepts:
Rw = Sound measurements taken in the laboratory. Rw = Sound measurements taken on site.
